Over time, this traditional game has expanded its reach to other regions, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh in India, as well as Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Variations of the game go by different names, such as Ali guli mane in Kannada, Vamana guntalu in Telugu, and Kuzhipara in Malayalam. Pallanguzhi is a two-player game, played on a wooden board featuring a total of fourteen pits, hence its name, derived from the words "fourteen pits" (pathinaalam kuzhi). These pits are filled with cowry shells, seeds, or small pebbles, serving as counters. Various versions of the game exist, offering diverse experiences based on the number of shells each player begins with.
